RESULTS OF VALUES QUIZ FOR INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONALS
GVI launched its UN/International System Values Assessment Project with a Values Quiz in April. With the quiz we sought to provide a structured opportunity for international professionals to gain insights into how values shape their approach to life and how this may affect their role in the international system.
Using the tools developed by Cultural Dynamics, GVI captured the outcomes of the quiz across the international community in terms of the Values Mode of the respondent.
Using the tools developed by Cultural Dynamics, GVI captured the outcomes of the quiz across the international community in terms of the Values Mode of the respondent.
We can now report that 94% of the persons taking the quiz were of the "Transcenders" Values Mode. These are pioneers, leading edge thinkers and self-aware persons who sense a larger purpose in life. The remaining 6% were of the "Prospector" Mode, persons who are optimistic, ambitious, and concerned with power and visible success. Interestingly, the safety-oriented Settlers Mode was not represented.
While the numbers participating are not statistically significant enough to make a general statement, GVI believes that the results bode well for progress in this field. Given the universal values foundation of the UN, the general orientation of Transcenders towards universalism (a desire for justice, openness and environmental concern) and towards autonomy (a belief that you can do something for yourself vs. victimhood) is a strong basis for developing values-driven programming, mechanisms and behaviours.
This is an initial learning phase for the Project and we look forward to engaging the international community further in future reserach and work on values in the international system.
